The Plan Commission has seven members who are selected in accordance with Indiana Statutes. The Town Council appoints the members for staggered 4-year terms. Up to three of the members may be elected Town officials, allowing the Town Council to select themselves as members. The Plan Commission selects a non-elected member as President. The Plan Commission President may appoint a secretary. Copies of the ordinances may be obtained by clicking on here. The ordinances regulate land use within Dune Acres. They address the location, height, size and use of buildings and structures. Minimum lot size, required front, rear and side yards, parking, structure height, floor area ratio and square footage requirements and Environmental concerns are covered. They are complex and a thorough understanding of them should be an integral element of any new construction, expansion or modification plans. All applications to the Commission must be accompanied by a completed Improvement Location Permit application form. Property owners should obtain a Zoning Permit from the Plan Commission before starting construction. Property owners contemplating construction and builders should read the Notice to Builder prior to submitting an application to the Plan Commission. The Plan Commission administers certain portions of the Town's Municipal Code and serves in an advisory capacity to the Town Council. The Plan Commission meets in the Town Hall at 7:30 pm on the 2nd Monday of every month. Click here to view or print a summary of actions taken, or minutes, at Plan Commission meetings.
